Proposal for John Ray Nursery
The proposal is to change the lower age limit of John Ray Infant School, Notley Road, Braintree from 4 to 2 years, changing the school’s age range from 4-7 years to 2-7 years with effect from September 2019. We aim to offer 52 FEEE places, 26 places during the morning and 26 places during the afternoon for age 2 to 4 year olds. We aim to provide the 30 hour offer for eligible families. We will follow a term time sessional delivery model, ie 8.45-11.45 and 12.30-3.30pm with extended wrap around care opportunities to offer the extended 30hr FEEE. In the first year we will allow 4 places for age 2. Children will be registered as pupils of the school. We will prioritise the 30 hour entitlement to families identified as the most disadvantaged. This then enables the school to deliver Free Early Education Entitlement (FEEE) for eligible 2 year olds. John Ray Infant School was rebuilt after a fire and included growth funding which would support the identified growing local need for providing a four form entry 360 school place provision. Within the scope of the proposed capital works, Nursery accommodation via changes to the School House has been identified which would support the delivery of the planned 2-4 year old early education provision. The proposed changes to the School House include a Single Storey rear extension.
