Otters

Welcome to Otters Class! This term our topic is Space.

Welcome back! We have had a very exciting week - today a visitor appeared in our classroom! It is small, yellow... and has long ears and 3 eyes! We have decided to look after this 'alien' while we try to find out more about where it has come from!

This week is Multicultural Week. We are really lucky in Otters to have lots of different cultures to share, and the children were teaching each other how to say hello and goodbye in Spanish, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian and Pakistan.

Today we learnt about Brazil and had a carnival day! We learnt a carnival dance, made carnival masks and made percussion instruments to play along to the samba music. We loved it!

We have had a great first week back!

On Monday we had an email asking us to do some Space Cadet training. We were very excited! Today we had a virtual reality workshop to actually experience Space. We used VR headsets to visit Mercury and Mars. Did you know Mars has 2 moons shaped like potatoes?

This week we have been looking at the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

We have been retelling the story, making puppets and describing the troll. We also had to make a new bridge for the goats to cross the river. It had to be big enough for the troll to live under! We had to collaborate and work as a team. Some of our material did not make a good bridge!

This week it's been our 50th Birthday!

We have had loads of fun making 60's outfits, dancing to 60's music and looking at 60's toys!

Thank you to all the adults who came in for our Grandparents session on Wednesday, it was lovely to see you all. We had great fun playing lots of different games.

This week we have been retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs. We performed to others and used great story language like Once upon a time, all of a sudden and happily ever after.

When we came back to school this half term we had had a visitor! We found bricks, sticks, straw and footprints. We also found a bag that had a map of 3 houses. We asked some of the teachers if they had seen anything, and Mrs Mills said she heard some huffing and puffing. Who could it be?

After lots of investigating we worked out it must have been the Big Bad Wolf!

This week we carried out a Skittles investigation. We added water and it made a pretty rainbow! I wonder why that happened?

We had a letter from the Owl! She came to visit our school and left us clues to find her favourite colours. What is your favourite colour?

This week we have been really busy representing numbers in different ways. We have used tens frames and counters, Numicon and tally marks. We are becoming good at recognising numbers quickly.

We have had a great first week and are excited about our busy year ahead.
