The Friends of John Ray Infant and Junior Schools

Chairpersons Report

For those who are new to the schools, the PTA is Split between both the Infant and Junior Schools. Even though we are the same PTA, we hold separate accounts for each School.  Each event we organise is either an event for a particular school, or it is a joint event and funds raised are credited to the corresponding accounts.

When we have raised lots of money, we then ask the schools what they would like to spend it on.  This year the Infant school has received monies towards Anniversary T-shirts, Chicken run, Wireless speaker, Story headphones and books for the school’s new topics. The Junior school asked for money for each year to supplement their topics; Event shelters, a speaker, goals and footballs for lunchtimes and the leavers hoodies. We have also supplied the crackers for the Christmas Dinners in both schools.

This year we have organised a mixture of events to include a Christmas Fayre, Discos and Ice Cream sales.  We also held the popular Gift shop and the Great John Ray Bake Off which once again was very successful. A new event for the year was a sponsored circuit. This was very well supported. This year we organised our Summer fete for a Saturday for the first time. This worked very well for us as there wasn’t the mad rush to set up and hordes of people straight after school. The atmosphere was lovely, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

At the end of last year, we conducted a questionnaire asking our parents for their opinions. It was very clear that they would like an online ordering system for our events. This is something that we have investigated and hope to have this up and running very soon.

This past year has been a very difficult one for me personally. So, at this point I really must thank the members of the committee for all their really hard work. They rallied around me fetching and delivering things to and from the schools during one of our busiest times in the school year. You ladies are so kind and wonderful, and I am so proud to call you my friends!

I would also like to thank, all the parents, teachers and office staff that have helped us this year. It has been great to see so many new faces helping and attending our events too.

I feel privileged to be a part of this PTA and hope to continue this coming year. Unfortunately, this will be my last year, as at the end of this year my son leaves for Secondary School.

Here’s to another successful year and hopefully more exciting new events for us all to enjoy!
